Italian-born, London-based producer Dario Picchi, known as Soreab, has unveiled details about his new album, CU, on the POLAAR imprint.
The 10-track album, which blends elements of techno, grime, dub, and industrial, follows on from Soreab’s recent collaborative EP with Om Unit. You can pre-order it here.
The ‘CU’ in the title stands for ‘Completely Unstable’ – while also pronounced ‘see you’ – and is an album where ‘personal disquiet fuelled compelling results’, according to a press release.
All tracks on the album were recorded in just four takes each, a process intended to preserve the immediacy of Soreab’s performance.
“Whilst everything around me was emotionally overwhelming, I found myself gravitating towards simplicity – towards stripped-back, repetitive structures that felt grounding,” Picchi explained.
“Working with audio loops helped me break free from emotional loops, and gave me a sense of space and control. I tried to use that repetition in a meaningful way. If the loop is going to repeat, let it do so with intention – let it stretch, shift, evolve. That became symbolic for me.”
Soreab has earned plaudits from the likes of Mumdance and DJ Plead and previously appeared on Ben UFO’s Rinse FM show and Danielle’s NTS show. He has also featured in publications including Resident Advisor, DJ Mag, Mixmag, and The Quietus.
