Tourist, aka William Phillips, has announced details of his forthcoming studio album, Music Is Invisible, which will see the Grammy Award-winning producer delve into trance music for the first time.

The album, which marks a pivot away from the melodic house, garage, and ambient styles that have defined his previous four albums, features ten tracks, including new single Veil, an atmospheric track built around an interpolated sample from electronic artist Grimes.

It follows on from the release of previous singles Embrace and Outside, the latter of which Tourist debuted during his set at Lost Village Festival in Lincolnshire last month.

All the singles released so far encapsulate the album’s ‘mission to create music as an atmosphere – an instinctive, mood-based body of work that draws from shoegaze, psychedelic textures, and the euphoric nostalgia of early rave culture’, as a press release put it.

Music Is Invisible is Tourist’s first long-player since 2022’s Inside Out, which was inspired by grief, fatherhood and pandemic-era reflection.

Tourist – Music Is Invisible is released on 5 December.
