Alfredo to be posthumously awarded ‘Ibiza Icon’ award at DJ Awards

The annual DJ Awards is set to take place at ROTO Club in Ibiza Town on 9 October, with Balearic legend Alfredo set to be celebrated at this year’s event with a posthumous ‘Ibiza Icon’ award.

The Argentinian helped soundtrack Ibiza nights for well over a generation – as he told 909originals a few years back, reflecting on his role in the emergence of ‘acid house’, “I think people have always been interested in the music from the past, as that knowledge can give them an idea of the evolution and the sound of the present. This is even more the case when the past is so rich.” Check out the full interview here.

The DJ Awards, which are in their 24th edition, have revealed the winners of their Industry Awards ahead of the ceremony, with Yann Pissenem named Industry Executive of the Year, and Yousuke Yukimatsu the winner of DJ Livestream of the Year for his Boiler Room performance. UNUM Festival in Albania received the Global Festival Award, while Soundstorm Festival in Saudi Arabia was recognised in the ‘Eye On: MENA’ regional spotlight category.

Elsewhere, Simon Dunmore received the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Ibiza Preservation Fund was honoured with the Play It Back – Social Impact Award, and UNVRS was awarded the What’s Hot Global Award.

The award for Ibiza Party of the Summer was awarded to Solid Grooves, while Ibiza track of the summer was Verano En NY by Toman.

The 24th edition of the awards will feature categories across a range of genres including Afro, Techno, House, Drum & Bass, Garage/Bassline, Latin/Reggaeton, Trance, and new additions such as Balearic and Hard Dance/Bounce, as well as recognising artists in categories such as Breakthrough, Newcomer, Live Act, and International DJ.

As in years past, all nominees and winners are chosen by a grand jury comprised of professionals from more than 50 global music organisations.

Funds raised from this year’s ceremony will be donated to the Spanish Red Cross to assist those affected by recent floods in Ibiza. The DJ Awards continues to partner with organisations including YouTube, Suntory, and Skiddle.
