Yousef marks 30 years in the music industry with new album ‘I Operate in Purple’

Yousef has unveiled his latest album, I Operate in Purple, on Circus Recordings, a release that marks 30 years of his career as a DJ, producer, and label founder.

Yousef has unveiled his latest album, I Operate in Purple, on Circus Recordings, a release that marks 30 years of his career as a DJ, producer, and label founder. 

The 14-track album, which was released on 26 September, explores different strands of house music, blending original production with live vocals and instrumental contributions.

I Operate in Purple stands as a heartfelt thank you – a celebration of the journey, the community, and the music that shaped me,” Yousef said of the release.

The album, Yousef’s first since 2019’s 9 Moor Drive, features collaborations with artists such as Baby Girl, Kuuda, Bodacious Thang, Alexx, and Yasmin, while collaborator Tim Hutton provides additional instrumentation to some of the album’s more uplifting moments, such as the track Higher Place, which has already been released as a single. 

In addition to his artist albums – which also include A Collection Of Scars And Situations (2009), A Product Of Your Environment (2012), and In The Process Of Eight (2015), all released on his own label, Circus Recordings – Yousef has put out music on labels such as Cocoon, Crosstown Rebels, Defected, and Moon Harbour.

His remix credits include Four Tet, Fatboy Slim, Sven Väth, and Chaka Khan, while as a DJ, his his long-running Circus events in Liverpool have played a central role in the city’s club scene for more than two decades.
