The Grid‘s ambient house classic Floatation is to be reworked by Mark Barrott and Made By Pete as part of a new remix EP due out in October.

To mark the 35th anniversary of the track by The Grid, aka Soft Cell’s Dave Ball and producer Richard Norris, the Floatation (Mark Barrott and Made By Pete Remixes) EP will feature both the original track as well as seven reinterpretations.

Mark Barrott, founder of the International Feel label and compiler of the La Torre series, contributes five of these, including the ‘Return to Sa Trinxa Remix’, the ‘God’s Cinema Sunset Re-Imagination Mix’, the ‘Ibiza Sunrise ’90 Re-Work‘, the ‘Somnolent Reprise‘ and the ‘Slo-Motion Reprise’.

Made by Pete, who has released on the Crosstown Rebels label and is the founder of the Life In Colour imprint, contributes both a ‘Radio Edit’ and ‘Extended Remix’ to complete the eight-track EP.

According to Skint Records, which is releasing the EP, the project signals the start of further activity from The Grid, with a compilation album, additional singles, and a new studio album planned.

The Grid formed in the late 1980s at the dawn of acid house, and Floatation, which featured on the album Electric Head, was their breakthrough single. It was also featured in the cult documentary, A Short Film About Chilling.

As well as the full remix EP, which is due out on 10 October, the individual remixes will be released in stages over the coming weeks – Mark Barrott’s Return to Sa Trinxa remix is set to be released on 29 August, followed by his God’s Cinema Sunset Re-imagination mix on 12 September, and his Somnolent Reprise on 26 September. Made by Pete’s remixes will arrive on 10 October.
