Electronic artist Eden Grey has unveiled a new album, In the Forest of Fangorn, on EC Underground.
The ten-track album, which was released on digital and limited-edition CD on 1 August, follows on from Eden Grey’s previous release on the label, Int-Interred, which included a cassette and book portfolio.
In the run up to the Miami producer’s latest release, four singles were made available digitally – starting with Rainshine and Cosmos in June, the latter of which was born out of a creative session at the University of Miami, where Grey was introducing a student to the nuances of electro and breakbeats using AJH modules.
The track Broken – a response to the challenges faced by the global community – was released on 10 July, while the final single, Transforming, came out on 24 July.
The album features contributions from other creatives. Tracks such as Broken, Dub Life, and Rainshine incorporate sample material from producer Ned Rush, Basilbus created the artwork, My Gloomy Machine developed accompanying animation, and mastering was handled by John Trevethan at FEM Records.
‘At ECU, we are passionate about exploring new artistic frontiers and supporting our artists in pushing the boundaries of traditional music,’ EC Underground said in a statement. ‘In the Forest of Fangorn is not just a project; it’s a testament to our belief in the power of collaboration and evolution in art.
‘Eden Grey’s creative process is deeply rooted in her passion for piano and melody. For this album, she revisited this foundational love, particularly evident in tracks where she begins with piano chords, setting the emotional tone.’
A multidisciplinary artist, Grey holds advanced degrees in music composition and technology and also works in visual arts and writing, paints, sculpts, and writes poems. She is also active in organizing modular synthesis events through CV FREQS and has performed and worked in various cities including Portland and London.
In the Forest of Fangorn is distributed via EC Underground and available now via Bandcamp.
