French electronic artist Voltaire is set to release his first full-length album, Echoes, on Laurent Garnier’s COD3 QR label.
The album, which lands on 20 June, follows on from a string of EPs and compilation appearances from Voltaire in recent years, as well as his 2023 remix of Laurent Garnier’s Tales From The Real World.
“After having produced a number of tracks, I was absolutely determined to create a story with all the pieces on this album,” he commented. “I wanted to compose something that I don’t hear anymore in today’s music, something different from dancefloor techno. Echoes fully crystallises this desire.”
Described as ’emotionally eclectic’, the album verges from lush, lysergic techno to IDM to electro and various other stop-off points. Voltaire’s inspirations span from foundational figures like Kraftwerk and Juan Atkins to the 2000s/2010s electro surge, resulting in a sound that’s both retro-informed and forward-thinking.
“Since I started out, I’ve produced house, techno and electro tracks – this eclecticism is part of my personality as a musician,” he added. “I love all facets of electronic music and I want to remain open to all influences.”
With Echoes, COD3 QR presents only its third artist album to date, after Garnier’s 33 Tours Et Puis S’en Vont and Works Of Intent’s Richer Sound.
