#MyRecordBag – Hernan Cattaneo’s top cinematic progressive tracks

For this week's #MyRecordBag, we're delighted to welcome Hernan Cattaneo to 909originals, where he presents his top cinematic progressive tracks.

For progressive house aficionados – or just those fond of deep, grooving beats – Argentine DJ and producer Hernan Cattaneo is one of the best, making his name over the years with a series of seminal mix CDs on labels such as Renaissance, Balance and Perfecto, as well as heading up the Sudbeat imprint.

His latest release, which seeks him team up with Mercurio, aka musician, guitar player and producer Esteban Battilana, is the 2009 EP, which is due to land on Sasha’s label Last Night On Earth on 27 June.

“After following, admiring and playing with Sasha for so many years, releasing music on his amazing label is an achievement that I personally rate very highly,” Cattaneo says of the release, describing the title track as “melodic and uplifting”, while the B-side, Sepulveda is a “darker grooves trip”.

For this week’s #MyRecordBag, we’re delighted to welcome Hernan Cattaneo to 909originals, where he presents his top cinematic progressive tracks. Over to you Hernan!

Pink Floyd – On the Run

“Many called this progressive rock, but for me, this is electronic and progressive at its best with an EMS Synthi AKS on fire!”

Giorgio Moroder – From Here to Eternity

“My first 100% electronic record – this is how the future sounded in the ’70s.”

Kraftwerk – Trans-Europe Express

“One of the best songs from the great German robots – I was a 12-year-old kid totally fascinated with these sounds.”

The Orb – A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules From the Centre of the Ultraworld

“A mind-blowing 19-minute journey of cinematic trippin’ vibes.”

Underworld – Dark and Long

“An unparalleled train of emotions from one of the best electronic bands ever.”

Moby – Go

“Moby’s first and unforgettable record, using the Twin Peaks – Laura Palmer’s Theme like the king he is.”

Sasha – Who Killed Sparky

“‘The man like’ with a monster ten-minute ride – every single change gives me goosebumps. Spectacular.”

Cass & Slide – Opera

“Back in the early 2000s, Cass & Slide were the creators of some of the most interesting prog tracks, rocking dancefloors around the globe. Opera really stands out like a bridge between club music and cinema – very emotional, atmospheric, deep. Fantastic!”

Dusted – Always Remember to Respect and Honour Your Mother [Deep Dish Loves Their Motha Remix]

“In my opinion, this is Deep Dish’s coolest remix to date – a very long deep trip only for connoisseurs. I used to play the dub and the main mix, creating 25 minutes of cinematic bliss.”

Vapourspace – Gravitational Arch of Ten

“One of my favourite intros, creating a mind-blowing atmosphere before all goes off. Timeless.”

Bonus: The KLF – Chill Out

“The best progressive cinematic chill album of all time.”

Thanks to Hernan for his selections. Hernan Cattaneo & Mercurio – 2009 is released on Last Night On Earth on 27 June. You can pre-order it here
