Dutch artist CausaliDox has unveiled In No Memory, a multidisciplinary release that encompasses an experimental electronic album, an immersive 4K photo book, and a series of online videos.
Released on EC Underground on 20 May, the album is an immersive blend of electronica, IDM, industrial and ambient music – awash with melancholy tones, smooth analog textures, and deep, psychedelic elements, akin to a movie soundtrack.
“In No Memory explores existence without trace – a complete absence from memory,” CausaliDox commented on the album. “In contemplating the impermanence of all things, it questions whether existence holds meaning without leaving an imprint on any system, being, or observing entity, and if such a state might be preferable.”
Each individual track carries with it a deeper meaning – opener Next Time The Sun “contemplates consciousness’ fundamental experience, subject to the repetitive cycles of light and dark on perpetual rotating planetary bodies,” according to the artist, while The Futility Of Existing (A Timeline) – the stand-out track for the 909originals team – evokes the thought that “time allotted for existence is but a speck on an expansive timeline”.
The title track, meanwhile, which closes the album, “represents the ultimate state of never having been aware of at all, existing outside of memory”, he adds.
CausaliDox, aka Marcus Moonen, unveiled the project to mark the 20th anniversary of his CausaliDox production moniker. He also produces music under the names sonOnos, TriggerRat, and Bob Knutton, and has released on labels such as Kaos Ex Machina, Shipwrec, Kahvi Collective, and Diffuse Reality.
He’s also known for his diverse talents as a photographer, filmmaker, writer, and composer, with expertise in scriptwriting, directing, filmmaking, and editing. In addition, his academic background in literature, philosophy, and audiovisual design carries through into projects like In No Memory.
“Somebody once said my music sounds like soundtracks for future fairy tales,” as the artist puts it. “I like that.”
