Electronic artist Roman Flügel has made his debut on Erol Alkan‘s label, Phantasy Sound, with a new EP, Hotel Karthago / Energies.
The EP, which was released on 26 April, features contrasting styles across its two tracks – Hotel Karthago is described as balancing ‘the elegance of vintage house with analogue machines operating at their most energetic’, while Energies ‘pours a measure of melancholy, teasing out a twinkling melody’ that recalls Flügel’s previous work on LPs such as Fatty Folders and Happiness Is Happening.
Hailing from Frankfurt, and residing in Berlin, Flügel has explored a variety of styles over the years with releases on labels such as Live At Robert Johnson, ESP Institute, Hypercolour and Phonica, as well as boasting a longstanding relationship with Gerd Jansen’s Running Back label.
“It’s the most important thing for me to remain playful,” he recently told Stamp The Wax. “That’s when I have the feeling I can connect to my subconscious mind which seems to be very important for what I’m doing.”
Roman Flügel – Hotel Karthago / Energies is out now on Phantasy Sound and can be downloaded/streamed here.
