Dark Entries has announced plans to reissue Our Darkness, by 1980s new wave artist and poet Anne Clark.

The Our Darkness EP features three versions of the 1984 track, which originally featured the album Joined Up Writing, as well as the tracks Sleeper in Metropolis and Poem for a Nuclear Romance.

Clark began her career as a writer and poet before being drawn into London’s punk scene, and then the music industry. She worked with Psychic TV affiliate David Harrow on 1983’s Changing Places and Joined Up Writing, released the following year, with their work combining spoken word with electronic music production.

Our Darkness was one of the stand-out tracks from this collaboration, with Clark reciting a text about city life and personal experience over programmed rhythm and synth patterns created by Harrow.

‘It’s a singular piece of music,’ as a press release put it. ‘Clark’s lyrics, delivered with equal parts muscular confidence and unease, speak of urban alienation and heartbreak, while Harrow’s production pummels the listener with hydraulic beats and gloom-laced arpeggios. The song’s spirit would prove influential on both the early Chicago house and Detroit techno scenes, where mechanistic funk and existential despair could catalyse dancefloor mayhem.’

The 2026 reissue features the original 12-inch mix of the track, the Razormaid mix, and a dub version prepared from material recovered by David Harrow.

Anne Clark – Our Darkness is set to be released on Dark Entries on 27 March. More information can be found here.
