Chris Liebing’s new EP is inspired by ‘Blade Runner’

Techno titan Chris Liebing has announced the forthcoming release of the Roy Batty EP – named after the titular character in Blade Runner – as well as sharing details about his next studio album.

The concept for the new EP, which features two tracks, Roy Batty and Brooks Ave, began with Liebing’s musings on Rutger Hauer’s character in Blade Runner “becoming sentient and asking for the possibility to experience this life longer” – a concept that seems ‘more vital than ever’ in this current age – as well as referencing the sci-fi undertones on which techno was built.

The new EP will be released on 30 January on CLR, and can be downloaded/streamed here.

It’s the first release from Liebing’s forthcoming album, Evolver, which is set to be released on CLR on 27 March, and will feature collaborations with Charlotte de Witte, Luke Slater, Speedy J, The Advent, The Alte Stuben Modular Ensemble, Terence Fixmer and Pascal Gabriel.

Remarkably, it’s set to be Liebing’s first solo techno LP, with the producer having teamed up with Ralf Hildenbeutel for 2018’s Burn Slow and 2023’s Another Day, and Andre Walter on 2002’s Evolution.

The tracklisting for the new album has been revealed (see below), with a further single set for release between now and its launch. You can pre-order the album here.
