Andre Zimmer is set to release a new EP, Bountiful, on Big Trouble Records this Friday (5 December), following on from a recent label showcase at Amsterdam Dance Event.
Zimmer founded Big Trouble Records following his move from Toronto to Berlin, with this latest vinyl release blending ‘Chicago house, jackin’ drum programming, hazy strings and analog textures’, according to a press release.
“This EP came together through my love for early Chicago house,” Zimmer commented. “I wanted it to feel like an orchestra playing through a club system – lush, but never polished.
“If the early Chicago stuff was about the body – the jack – this EP adds back the head and the heart. It’s dancefloor music, but full of little imperfections.”
The EP features four tracks, Jack Track (Beauty Mix), I Think The Brain Did Something, The Holy Sequence and the title track.
As well as largely relying on the Roland 707 and 727 drum machines, along with a Juno-60 and SH-101, Zimmer incorporated fragments from old TV broadcasts, and layered live strings resampled through dusty machines, to create an authentic sound.
Zimmer has had a busy couple of years – last year saw the release of Raf, his collaboration with Carlita (which appeared in her fabric mix), while another track, Invisible Sandwich, was featured in Job Jobse’s RA Mix of the Day. He also has a number of projects lined up for the new year, including an EP with Craigie Knowes and a remix package for the Canadian group Lime.
His production output has appeared on labels including Time Is Now, Life and Death and SEVEN, as well as his own label. You can purchase the Bountiful EP here.
