Christophe Salin‘s love of house music dates back to the 1990s, with his initial work on white label releases and edits leading to the Lübeck, Germany native establishing Salin Records in 2018 as an outlet for his creative expression.

His latest release, La Vérité, which is out now on Salin Records, continues this approach, boasting his signature blend of emotive house and narrative depth on what has been described as a ‘deeply personal and emotionally rich’ EP.

For the latest #MyRecordBag, Christophe Salin presents his top classic deep house gems – as the DJ/producer himself puts it, “here are 10 classics/treasures from my vinyl collection that continue to inspire me and that I’ll never part with.

“It’s always fascinating to learn more about yourself and your own work when you give interviews like this. Looking back, I realised that the influence of all these ten tracks can clearly be heard in the three songs on my new EP, La Vérité. Almost all of these records I bought as a teenager – and maybe those years are the most formative of all, when everything feels new, exciting, and full of enthusiasm. Enjoy the listening – I hope you feel the vibe.” 🙂

Shaun Escoffery – Days Like This (Spinna & Ticklah Club Mix) – Oyster Music (2002)

“This one never fails to put a smile on my face. Pure good vibes! Flabaire once played it at Badaboum in Paris, and the atmosphere it created was exactly what house music stands for – freedom, respect, love! A moment I’ll never forget.”

Ben Westbeech – Hang Around (Karizma’s Kaytronic Dub Mix) – Brownswood Recordings (2007)

“Still only ever released on vinyl. This track has an unmatched magic – it takes me further away from the here and now than almost anything else. A timeless masterpiece by Karizma!”

Kings Of Tomorrow – Fade II Black – Yoshitoshi Recordings (1997)

“For me, the New York house sound has always been the biggest inspiration, even more than Chicago or Detroit. This one captures that NYC groove perfectly. And when the vocal drops and the bass shifts tonality – unbelievable energy!”

DJ Gregory – Afromobile – Faya Combo (2003)

“New York and Paris have always been connected in some way. Gregory brought strong NYC influences back to Paris and helped shape the French Touch. French house is another huge inspiration for me, and this track blew me away the very first time I heard it in a record shop – and it still does today.”

Le Knight Club – Soul Bells  – Crydamoure (2002)

“Gritty, loud, pumpin’, simple – slammin’. French house at its rawest and finest.”

Red Rack’em – In Love Again (fast) – Wolf Music Recordings (2013)

“A true masterpiece of sampling! This track is the perfect example of how less can be more. Everything is there, nothing is too much – minimalism meeting deep house at its best. That inspires me a lot.”

Felix Da Housecat – What Does It Feel Like? (Röyksopp Return The Sun Remix) – City Rockers (2002)

“Honestly – when that bassline kicks in… woahhh!”

Freak Sensation – Birdhouse – ProgCity (2001)

“Martin Buttrich produced some amazing house in the early 2000s, much of it for Peppermint Jam [Mousse T.]. His beats still sound fresh today. An outstanding producer!”

Masters At Work – Lean On Me – MAW Records (2002)

“Back to New York! I own the vinyl box of Our Time Is Coming, each record pressed in a different colour – and I even bought it twice. I was only 17 when it came out, such a good time in my life. This album brings back beautiful memories.”

Dennis Ferrer – How Do I Let Go – Defected (2006)

“It’s tough to choose a final track, but let’s stay in New York. Dennis Ferrer is simply exceptional. His album The World As I See It captivated me from day one and never let go – endless inspiration. This track is probably known to everyone reading this, but still, you can’t help smiling when it comes on. Just brilliant.”
