Dutch electronic group Tinlicker have announced the appointment of a new full member, singer/songwriter Hero Baldwin, who joins original producers Micha Heyboer and Jordi van Achthoven.
The trio have also announced details of their fourth studio album, which is set for release in early 2026 through Remember the Future/[PIAS], and is preceded by a new single, I Want My Freedom.
Baldwin has collaborated with the group on a number of previous tracks, including the single I Started A Fire, which was released in April, as well as a series of successful live performances together.
In fact, the trio have been working together since 2020, as Baldwin explained, “Jordi and Micha seem to pull something out of me that resonates with my emotional landscape every time we make a song. I think it’s so important to feel creatively and emotionally secure, and Jordi and Micha always afford me that privilege.”
On I Want My Freedom, which features ‘ slow piano chords, then jumpy, upbeat percussion with a breakbeat and an addictive swing flavour’, Baldwin delivers a deeply personal lyric.
“These lyrics circled in my mind for a long time,” she says. “I started writing from that feeling of disconnection as a woman in my mid-twenties with a sharp awareness of the world moving backwards. But over time, the song grew into something bigger.
“I Want My Freedom isn’t just about me, it’s about all of us. The heartbreaking truth is that the abuse of freedoms reaches far beyond gender. I wanted to create a song of inclusion, with a nod to what I personally feel I’ve lost. Freedom is never handed to us, it’s something we fight for, and I no longer have that softness in me to apologise for that.”
The release of the new single is the first output from Tinlicker since 2023’s Cold Enough for Snow, which was supported by an extensive tour across Europe and North America. They are set to announce details soon of a new tour of Europe and the UK, which will commence in March.
