ary:eh‘s approach to music has been shaped by Brooklyn‘s underground scene, blended with hip hop culture and Latin rhythms, blurring the line between deep, hypnotic beats and high-impact club tools.
This is certainly the case on recent release, Set Me Free, alongside Sash, which was first road-tested by Seth Troxler at Circoloco in Ibiza earlier this summer. You can download/stream it here.
For this week’s #MyRecordBag, ary:eh presents a playlist inspired by what he says was the ‘golden age of tech house’ – specifically the closing party at Amnesia Ibiza in 2009, which was helmed by Richie Hawtin and Marco Carola.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of that era, and especially of Richie Hawtin & Marco Carola’s legendary Amnesia closing set in 2009,” ary:eh explains. “The bass didn’t just vibrate; it bounced in your chest. Sets unfolded like fluid stories — no rushing, no peaks, just groove, patience, and gravity. It was linearly hypnotic and full of soul.
“That kind of flow rarely happens today, and while I don’t mimic it in my own productions, I chase that energy as a listener — in my DJ sets, while digging through records, when other DJs unlock it live, and in people’s productions. Here are ten tracks that live and breathe that moment.”
Coyu & Edu Imbernon – El Baile Alemán (Original Mix)
“A milestone in late-2000s tech house. Its melodic flair stood out in an era dominated by stripped grooves, and it still sounds like a fresh pivot point for the genre.”
Audiofly – Shazam (Leon Mix)
“This one opened Richie and Carola’s Amnesia set in 2009 — a hypnotic roller, stripped to the bone yet impossible to resist. It’s proof that minimalism can still tell a grand story.”
Giuseppe Cennamo – El Gitano (Federico Grazzini Remix)
“Tribal percussion and hypnotic loops intertwine here. It’s gritty yet graceful, built for the kind of long after-hours that bleed into daylight.”
Federico Grazzini – Tokyo (Original Mix)
“Dropped during that same Amnesia night, Tokyo has a dark elegance with a rolling bounce that defined the dancefloor energy of the era. Timeless, patient, and magnetic.”
Ronan Portela & Ariel Rodz – Yell Room
“A pure roller with raw drums and subtle textures. Tracks like this show how South American producers shaped the global tech house sound of the time.”
Beat Up – Beat Up
“Relentless and minimal, with just enough detail to keep you hooked. It’s the sort of groove Richie or Carola could stretch out for half an hour without anyone realizing time had passed.”
Michi Lange – Brothers & Sisters (Original)
“A smooth hypnotic cut that feels like a journey in itself. It bridges the warmth of house with the functionality of tech, embodying the crossover sound of the 2000s.”
OTP – Close To The Edge (Original Mix)
“One of the standouts from Richie and Carola’s Amnesia set. Pure repetition, pure bounce — a track that shows how minimal can feel infinite when handled by the right DJ.”
DANCE – Ethnicity, Pt. 2 (Club Mix)
“Tribal and immersive, it pulses forward with every bar. The kind of track that doesn’t explode — it just drags the floor deeper into the trip.”
Johnny Dangerous – Problem #13 (Beat That Bitch With A Bat)
“A raw and unapologetic bomb. This track’s attitude and bounce capture the wild, no-filter spirit that often cuts through those marathon sets.”
