Ellen Allien channels personal loss into new single ‘Under The Ocean’

Berlin-based DJ and producer Ellen Allien has announced details of one of her most personal tracks to date, Under The Ocean – a tribute to her mother, who passed away in early 2025.

The single, which is set for release on Allien’s label, BPitch, on 18 July, was premiered at NAME Festival in May, and presents itself as an ‘electronic dream, with soundscapes that conceptually follow Ellen’s mother as she travels through sonic realms’, according to a press release.

“I wanted to make a track that I can play in my DJ sets, because then my mother is also with me when I perform,” Allien explains. “She was at my first DJ show, dancing in front of me, and always supported me. This is my way of creating a beautiful reminder of her and what she means to me.”

The release of the single comes amidst a busy summer for Ellen Allien, with appearances at WHOLE Festival, Terminal 5, Boomtown, and Parco Gondar set for the coming weeks. Allien also appeared at Awakenings Festival in the Netherlands this past weekend, some videos of which can be viewed below.

Ellen Allien – Under The Ocean is released on Bpitch on 18 July. You can pre-order it here.
