A new documentary by Bluesky Films, Lush! Lives, tracks the evolution of the legendary club night Lush!, which was held at Kelly’s Portrush from 1996 to 2020.

The film, which was first unveiled last year, has just been posted to YouTube in its entirety, and features interviews with the promoters, resident and guest DJs, the clubbers – as well as unsung heroes including the security and the bar staff – that made Lush!, on Northern Ireland‘s northern coast, what it was.

“It was just absolute chaos – it was madness, mayhem,” as Carl Cox muses at one point. “And I was feeding off the madness of it all. The energy of it all. People talk about it today with affinity because if you look at partying today, it’s quite subdued. Everyone’s got their cameras out, they’re dressed really nice.

“Kelly’s was like, ‘I’m in it to get really sweaty, I’m going to really have a great time with my friends’. The music was beyond itself, at the end of the day, in the sense of its energy. There was nothing else like it.”

The film was launched on 27 April 2024 in The Barn at Kelly’s with an afterparty that featured many of the old resident DJs and was headlined by John Cecchini for his farewell performance as a DJ. Watch the documentary below.
