Brooklynzhen channels the underground spirit on ’33rd Degree Jason’

Brooklynzhen, aka Glasgow-based producer Allan McCafferty, cites Daft Punk’s Homework and Sub Club DJs Optimo and Harri & Domenic as his influences, and that underground house sound is evident on his new single 33rd Degree Jason.

Recorded using a refurbished Roland SH101, along with McCafferty’s trusty MacBook Pro, the deep, driving tech track, was inspired by the fact that “the human population is the most diverse yet most divided in history,” according to the producer.

With that in mind, he adds, “finding moments and making memories is crucial to maintaining high spirits, and underground, grimey house music is where happiness lives.”

McCafferty’s diverse musical background is also evident on the track, with plans for Brooklynzhen to go on the road for a series of DJ sets and live performances later in the year.

“I like to work with as limited gear as possible,” he says of his production approach. “I am from a death-metal guitar and drum machine background but focusing more on the house and techno side of things now. Previously I have only ever contributed music for artists’ video installations.”
