Dutch producer Heijmat has released a new EP, Echoes of Solace, which blends ambient electronica and downtempo with a cinematic edge.

Reminiscent of the work of Jon Hopkins, Bonobo, and Ólafur Arnalds, the four-track EP follows what was a challenging year for Heijmat, as he explains.

“2024 has been quite turbulent on a personal level, and I think that’s reflected in the music on this second EP,” he says. “It’s quite dark at times, but always with hope going through, and I must say I’m really happy with what came out of that musically.

“I think the music is both intense and soothing, but most of all emotionally charged and authentic. It’s also a bit more organic than my previous work, and I feel that’s a direction I want to explore more in the future.”

Heijmat is the brainchild of award-winning mixing engineer Huub Reijnders, who has mixed for the likes of Oscar and the Wolf, The Subs, Jack Parow, Kraak & Smaak and Merol. His music has been described as blending ‘vibrant soundscapes of swelling analogue synths and mesmerising beats’, which has earned him support from the likes of Earmilk, Notion, DMY and 1883.

The artwork for Echoes of Solace was designed by Heijmat’s wife, incorporating a Polaroid from their eldest daughter and a painting by his father-in-law.

Heijmat – Echoes of Solace is out now, and can be downloaded/streamed here.
