Damian Lazarus has announced the surprise release of his fifth studio album, Magickal, on Crosstown Rebels.
Rather than staggering a series of singles over a set period, as is the industry norm, Lazarus unveiled the album in its entirety – as he explained, “With Magickal, I wanted to do things differently. I’ve sought to bypass the current trend of drawn-out single drops and fragmented album experiences.
“For me, this is about returning to the idea of an album as a complete, cohesive artistic statement — a pinnacle moment rather than an afterthought. After the release, we’ll explore the music further with singles, remixes, and a world tour, where I’m planning to present the album in some fresh, innovative ways. All to be revealed soon.”
The album features a number of collaborations, including the single Searchin’, with Jem Cooke, which has been released in parallel with the LP’s release, backed by a remix from Radio Slave.
Elsewhere, So Low sees him team up with Zoe Kypri; Falling Down features Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (TEED) and A-Trak; Mëstiza teams up for La Hija De Juan Simon; R U Dreaming? features Mathew Johnson; and many more.
Lazarus’ annual festival, Day Zero in Tulum, takes place this coming weekend (11 January) and marks the start of a 42-date world tour to promote the album, featuring appearances in Italy, Mexico, France, Spain, Indonesia, Turkey, Germany, Brazil, and more, while on the US front, he will headline venues in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and El Paso. He also has a number of dates at Hï Ibiza already confirmed for this summer.
