Hailing from Italy via London, Cristina Lazic has risen to international prominence in the underground scene in just a few short years, with her sophisticated minimal and stripped-back house sounds gracing labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Moxy Music, Moan, Bondage Music and TBX.
Recently, she established a new record label, mentoring program, events and apparel brand, La Zic, and she is in the midst of a busy summer of touring, with performances in Venice, Toulouse, London and countless appearances in Ibiza over the next few weeks.
This month saw the release of her latest EP, L’Amour, a four-tracker that features remixes of the title track from Nu Zau and Los Suruba, as well as Todo El Universo, which features vocals from her Spanish friend, Monica. You can check it out here.
For the latest edition of 909originals’ #MyRecordBag feature, Cristina Lazic presents her top minimal classics – tracks that influenced both her sound and her love of all things electronic. Over to you, Cristina!
Pier Bucci – Hay Consuelo (Samim Remix) [Crosstown Rebels]
“This track will always remind me of when I moved to London at the age of 18, and had my first proper encounters with electronic music, in historical venues like 1001 and The End.”
Gabriel Ananda – Doppelwhipper [Truesoul]
“The maestro Gabriel Ananda takes you on a journey with Doppelwhipper – I remember first listening to it at fabric in London, I think at the age of 19. I have recently featured this track in some of my sets and music aficionados immediately recognise it.”
Depeche Mode – The Sinner in Me (Ricardo Villalobos Conclave Remix) [White Label]
“Ricardo’s reinterpretation of a gem by Depeche Mode. An all-time classic that will make all minimal lovers feel nostalgic.”
Nu feat. Jo.Ke – Who Loves The Sun (Original Mix) [BAR25 Music]
“One of those tracks that will simply stick in your head, it can work both at sunset on the beach but also at peak time during a carefully selected minimal journey.”
Trentemøller – Moan (Trentemøller Remix) [Poker Flat Recordings]
“A true gem that encompasses the sound of a decade and will always be appreciated by electronic music lovers, out on Steve Bug’s revered label Poker Flat Recordings. The female vocals are hypnotic, sexy and take you on a journey.”
Archie Hamilton – Mind Blank [Fuse London]
“Fuse, probably my favourite label of all, and Archie Hamilton on duties with a groove that will bring a smile to your face. Once again, loads of London-related memories connected to this one, including, of course, several Fuse and Locus parties.”
Guti & Dubshape – Every Cow Has a Bird [Crosstown Rebels]
“As a piano lover, it’s impossible not to absolutely adore this gem – it has the groove, it has the beat, but it also has class. It’s timeless, out on one of the labels that I belong to – Crosstown Rebels. As usual, Damian Lazarus was able to spot incredible talent and bring it to the surface. I also love the recent remix by Tibi Dabo!”
Claude VonStroke – Deep Throat [Dirtybird]
“An absolute top class track by master Claude VonStroke. The idea of using such an original sample made this an all time classic, that minimal lovers will immediately recognise.”
M.A.N.D.Y vs Booka Shade – Body Language [Get Physical Music]
“It was 2005, yet it feels so contemporary and ‘now’. This magical tune, out on Get Physical, will always mean one thing to me: London. London is the city that mostly shaped me from a musical perspective, and this was the track that simply represents all of this influence the most.”
Reboot – Caminando [Sei Es Drum]
“Most of you will probably have Ibiza-related memories with this track, and so do I! An all time favourite for many (and my husband’s favourite too), Reboot’s hypnotic grooves mixed with the incredible Brazilian vocal that will make people feel chills.”
Francesco Tristano & Carl Craig – The Melody [InFine]
“What is a pure definition of art? For me, it’s this track. Another classical one, merging classical with electronic music and bringing together the incredible piano skills of Francesco Tristano, and Carl Craig on remix duties.”
Thanks Cristina for your selections. Check out the L’Amour EP here.
