More unreleased Patrick Cowley tracks set to be released by Dark Entries Records
San Francisco-based label Dark Entries Records is continuing to uncover yet more unreleased material by hi-NRG pioneer Patrick Cowley, who passed away in 1982, with the forthcoming album Some Funkettes set to land later this month.
On the back of a series of archival albums, including Catholic, School Daze, Muscle Up, Afternooners, and the recent Mechanical Fantasy Box, Some Funkettes features a series of cover songs recorded between 1975 and 1977, when the up and coming producer was honing his craft.
It includes Papa Wuzza Rollinston, a reworking of the Temptations’ Papa Was a Rolling Stone, Cowley’s take on Donna Summer’s I Feel Love, a faithful take on Bazuka’s Dynomite, and Spiked Punch, a riff on Herbie Hancock’s Chameleon.

The release was made possible with assistance from Patrick’s brother Jim and his former studiomate Maurice Tan, while the sleeve features a collage made in 1975 by Cowley’s former roommate Francesca Rosa.
As with the previous Dark Entries releases, it sheds further light on the formative career of one of electronic music’s most important pioneers.
Some Funkettes will be released on 19 October, just a couple of week’s short of what would have been Cowley’s 70th birthday. It’s available to pre-order on Bandcamp now.
