The latest in the fabric presents mix series, featuring Detroit outfit Floorplan, is set to land this Friday (28 November), and features two exclusive singles, You’re A Shining Star (out now) and Only God (also released on Friday).
The release continues the long tradition between Robert Hood and fabric, which dates back more than 20 years, and this time features his daughter Lyric Hood in tow.
“Of the handful of techno clubs that I’ve shared stories about with Lyric, fabric was usually the one I talked about most, especially that sound system, and the crowds were just crazy,” Hood said of his experience at fabric, for which he released fabric 39 in 2008.
He has clocked up more than 20 sets in fabric’s Room 2 over the years, including a live session in 2012.
“When you walk into Room 2 you feel like you’re walking into a moment,” he adds. “Once the room pulls you in, a connection is formed between a DJ & the atmosphere in that room. It’s purely organic.”
Lyric joined Floorplan in 2014 following the release of the first Floorplan album, Paradise, becoming a full member two years later. Since then, the pair have released several records together, with Hood making a connection between the two new singles, You’re A Shining Star and Only God, and his experiences in fabric.
“One of the unique things about fabric is that the DJ isn’t really the star of the club. The stage in Room 2 is where any and everyone can shine,” he says.
On the techno-infused Only God, the pair note, “We think when you hear these tracks play you can feel an anointing, and the uplifting spirit. Only God could do it. We soak up all that energy of Room 2 and give it right back in these tracks.”
Other artists to appear on the mix include Will Clarke & House Gospel Choir, Groove Armada, Christoph, Mathias Kaden and Low Steppa, to name but a few.
