Dutch electronic trio Kraak & Smaak have released their seventh studio album, Velvet Seas, through their own label, Boogie Angst.
The album, which was released on 24 October, was ‘written between the cobblestones of Leiden and the sun-drenched haze of Los Angeles’, according to the group, and features 13 tracks that span the group’s funk, soul and cinematic styles. Check it out here.
The group, comprising Oscar de Jong, Wim Plug and Mark Kneppers, describe Velvet Seas as feeling “like both a continuation and a rebirth”, with the release coinciding with a performance at Melkweg last week, which formed part of Amsterdam Dance Event.
The album brings together a variety of collaborators (some of which Kraak & Smaak have worked with before), including IVAR, Berenice van Leer, Izo FitzRoy, Butter Bath, The Undercover Dream Lovers, iogi, Kosta G, and Kainalu.
It’s their first long player since 2020’s Pleasure Centre.

The trio are bringing the new album on the road over the coming months, with performances set to take place in cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Budapest, and Brno, as well as various cities in the Netherlands. Next summer sees them embark on a US tour.
Over the past 20 years, Kraak & Smaak have played everywhere from Coachella to SXSW to Glastonbury to Sziget, and have remixed the likes of Moby, Röyksopp and Aretha Franklin.
