Jack Said What, a new label operated by Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh and producer Steve Mac, continues its recent run of form with the announcement of a forthcoming album by Cousn, founders of the FAMILY collective.
The ten-track album, FAMILY Jewels, is set to be released on 21 October, and also features contributions from Surya Sen, Luca Manning and Scott Booth.
Commenting on the forthcoming release, Irvine Welsh said, “Part of the reason for setting up Jack Said What was to give emerging talented young artists like Cousn a space that they could think of as their own. We want them all to be massive.”
The release follows hot on the heels of Steve Mac’s latest track, Jack Said What (which was backed by a remix by the legendary Chip-E); a new house cut from Mutiny, Invade; and Serge Santiago’s You Got Me.
According to Cousn, who had already released the singles Fluffy Teddy Bear and Almost Famous on the label, the album is the next step on an exciting journey for the duo, “Being actual cousins, we first met each other as tiny babies. But it wasn’t until we formed Cousn at age 16 that we started this mad journey together,” they said. “Since then, through our FAMLY Connection collective, we’ve built up a large number of like-minded artists from all walks of life who we can now call our FAMLY.
“FAMLY Jewels was inspired by our determination for the Cousn sound not to be pigeonholed but to enjoy working with the people we love and setting out to be uniquely ourselves. We’re really excited to share what has been an album that’s been years in the making, but now feels like just the start of an ongoing journey together.”
