Acid Pauli has announced details of a forthcoming new album, Mystic Meltdown, which is set for release on 20 November on All Is Acid.
The 11-track album is the first by Acid Pauli – aka electronic producer Martin Gretschmann – since 2020’s MOD, and draws on the techno, house and ambient elements associated with his output, as well as his earlier electronic work with Console.
According to Greschmann, who is also a member of The Notwist, the album was developed over an extended period.
“It took months and months to find the coherency and the story that this album is telling,” he says “Arranging the pacing, feeling how the tracks come together into one album.”
The album also features collaborations with artists from a variety of musical traditions – Hani Mojtahedy provides Kurdish vocals on Goman (Remix), which also features Lhasa de Sela’s Spanish-language Con Toda Palabra. Elsewhere, the title track features voices sampled from Kingdom Molongi, well known from the Nyege Nyege Tapes label, and Yes, Caroline references The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds.
According to the artist, the album represents ‘complete expression’ – from beginning to end and from creation to reflection.
“Building up, going into different spheres and emotions,” he adds. “Working through some darker shades, trying to find light. Pouring in to get through.”
