Blending dub techno, downtempo, ambient and experimental electronica, Chilean producer LLLIT is set to release a new five-track EP, Inesperado Contratiempo.
According to the producer, each track on the EP represents a different stage of an ‘unexpected setback’ – the opening track, Desvío Sin Aviso (which translates as ‘Unannounced Detour’) weaves vocal snippets through a pulsing, arpeggiated rhythm, before the track Deriva delves into echo-drenched breakbeats and warped synths.
This is followed by Umbral, which sees spiky pulses backed by spoken word vocals, before building into a chugging dub groove, and Fractura, probably our favourite track on the EP, with its subtle acid refrain and minimal techno beats.
Latencia resiDual, the EP’s closing track, with its sparkling synths and FX-laden vocals, has already earned praise – with Parkett noting that it recalls ‘the golden era of Matthew Herbert, Perlon and Ricardo Villalobos’.
Designed for deep listening, rather than the dancefloor, the EP follows on from previous LLLIT projects such as Ecosfera, Sintergia, Hiperbórea, El Espectro de la Consciencia and the 2024 EP Broken Abst, which was released on EC Underground.
LLLIT has also collaborated with minimal producer Radio Badjay on Dirt Dub, and has appeared on platforms and labels including Proton LLC, Superordinate Dub Waves, Apnea Label, Insectorama and Piranha Siberia Dub.
As well as providing vocals on Inesperado Contratiempo, Camola Bravo developed the striking collage that graces the EP’s cover. Additional vocals were provided by Groovidub. The EP was written, produced and mastered by LLLIT.
