Irish prog rock/synth act Ethel’s Odyssey has unveiled a new single, Bullet Train, from the forthcoming Shrine EP, set for release in early September through Camellia Sinensis Records.

Inspired by drummer Ian Hand’s experiences travelling around Japan, Bullet Train sees Hand play a relentless high tempo beat alongside a driven bassline, while samples of train announcements and field recordings of speeding bullet trains echo in the background.

Arpeggiated lead synth and synth strings provide additional layers within the track, which was recorded and mixed by Hand himself, and mastered by Tony Becker at Blue Mountain Mastering.

The release follows a live performance by Ethel’s Odyssey at Drogheda’s Watchtower in May, where Hand was joined by Gene Carolan on bass and Ógy Collins on synth and samples. Both musicians will return for the EP launch on 5 September, again at the Watchtower venue.

Ethel’s Odyssey first emerged towards the end of 2024, with the release of a self-titled EP through Bigmoon Records.

Ethel’s Odyssey – Shrine is released on 4 September. Check it out here.
