Cassius set to make first appearance since death of member Philippe Zdar

Cassuis, a key artist during the French Touch movement, is set to appear for the first time in five years, to perform a one-off DJ set at the closing ceremony for the Paralympics at the Stade De France in Paris on 8 September.

It will mark the first time that Cassius has performed since the passing of member Philippe ‘Zdar’ Cerboneschi, who died in tragic circumstances in 2019.

Fellow Cassius member Hubert ‘Boombass’ Blanc-Francard has kept the Cassius name on hiatus until now, and the upcoming performance is set to be a ‘tribute and celebration in memory of his dear friend and co-producer’, according to a press release.

Cassius were one of the leading groups to emerge during the so-called ‘French Touch‘ period – having previously worked with artists such as MC Solaar and Étienne de Crécy, their first release as Cassius was 1996’s Foxxy, with this followed up by hit singles including Cassius 1999, Feeling For You and The Sound Of Violence, among others.

They released their last album, Dreems, in June 2019, the same month that Zdar passed away. Main photo by Pedro Winter.
