Phil Kieran is releasing a new single, Atlantic, ahead of his forthcoming album The Strand Cinema, which is due for release on 24 March.
The single lands on 24 February. Both the single and album are being released on Kieran’s own Phil Kieran Recordings label.
The new album, which has been described as ‘cinematic , avant-electronica and experimental’, will be accompanied by an A/V show, which is due to get its first airing on 4 March, accompanied by the Ulster Orchestra at The Strand in Belfast, the city’s oldest cinema.
The visual element of the show is a collaborative effort between 11 visual artists, including The Fully Automated (generative art), Kristina McCormack (filmmaker for Ninja Tune, DFA, and commercial projects), Frederico Vitetta (Girl Skateboards, Girl Films, and Wet Dream with Spike Jonze), and Oona Doherty (award-winning choreographer/dancer who has appeared in a Jamie XX video). The show delves into the delicate balance between nature and technology.
Details of an after-party have also just been announced.

On the forthcoming album, Kieran says, “machines only sound as good as the human spirit put into them”, adding the aim is “not to tell people whether AI and technology advancements are good or bad, but rather to emphasise that humanity is entering a new era where it’s necessary to start considering and shaping our desired future”.
Kieran’s back catalogue spans five studio albums, some 90 singles and EPs and countless remixes and collaborations with acts as as diverse as Agoria, Green Velvet, Roman Flugel, Nitzer Ebb, Depeche Mode and David Holmes.
In recent years, he has been undertaking more soundtrack work, including for film (Nightride on Netflix, Rough), radio (The Northern Bank Job, on BBC Radio 4) and theatre (East Belfast Boy).
