Drawing on her classical training and deep-rooted club sensibility, Redfreya has developed a reputation for productions that balance rich harmonic depth with driving, hypnotic rhythm.
The London-based producer has just released her latest EP, The Waves, on Anomaly Music, a record inspired by the “bittersweet feeling that happiness is always fleeting – even as we arrive in the happy or euphoric moment, we are already leaving”, as the artist puts it. Check it out here.
With that sentiment in mind, Redfreya has adopted a novel approach for this week’s #MyRecordBag, presenting ‘ten tracks for tears on the dancefloor’.
“I thought a lot about the tracks for this compilation and had to be selective, as I had many more I could have included,” Redfreya tells 909originals. “My DJ sets are often infused with elements of melancholia – although, of course, they have uplifting moments too – but they’re always very emotional, deep and introspective. The music here reflects this.
“I won’t say too much about the tracks because I think the music speaks for itself. Sometimes it’s hard to describe feelings with words, and music and art in general do a better job of expressing them through sounds, metaphors and symbols.”
LB Honne – Heaven gw
“This is my favourite track from LB Honne’s new 2026 album [vinyl only], guardwatcher pt. i. It’s one of the dreamiest records I’ve ever heard. I picked up a copy of the vinyl record the last time I was in Cologne, Germany, in April. The quality of all the tracks across the compilation is very high, but this one is perhaps the most thoughtful, and I love the lyrics.”
The Cinematic Orchestra – Wait For Now (Pepe Bradock’s Wobbly Mix)
“The Cinematic Orchestra have been one of my favourite bands or musical ensembles over the last 20 years, and to find a retouch of one of their classic instrumental pieces with more electronic percussion, making it suitable for club settings, was amazing.”
Tren – I Missed Having You In My Life
“This atmospheric ambient track is infused with raw harmonic layers. The title speaks for itself. I would also recommend Tren’s beautiful album, Tears Of Things, Sorrows Of The Universe, for a similar vibe.”
Daniel Avery – Lone Swordsman
“Something slightly more uplifting, but still emotionally connecting. Not all tears are sad, and I think this track can make you cry on the dancefloor through a feeling of hopefulness or even awe. It’s a well-crafted song that seems to tell a whole story through the melody, and something I love about it is that you can listen to it repeatedly and it still sounds fresh every time.”
PHCK – More Than A Machine
“Stepping into the groove, soft melodies combine here with delicate percussion, making it uplifting and slightly sad at the same time. I love the lyrics: ‘More than a machine – you think too much and feel too little.‘”
Terranova – Paris Is For Lovers
“Love is such a huge theme in our lives, and although it’s beautiful, it draws in the full spectrum of human emotions. Anyone who has been in love knows how much it can hurt sometimes. This song would definitely make me cry on the dancefloor.”
Motip White – Well, Love Is A Big Word
“One of my favourites from my IN LIMBO Audio label co-partner, Motip White, although his entire discography is full of melancholic music, so there were a few options to choose from. This track elegantly tells an emotive story of intense feeling without words, only resonant frequencies.”
Yeah But No – Veneer (Echonomist Remix)
“Rolling and floaty, happiness and sadness clash together here and pierce your heart to make you feel something. Again, perhaps at its core it’s just hope. The track definitely has an uplifting aura.”
ADA – Faith
“As the lyrics go, ‘If you’re blue, don’t let it worry you. We’ll make it through, and if you don’t believe me – faith will come, humbly down, fear will come, tumbling down. Faith will come.’ This soft and gentle song speaks for itself.”
Leafar Legov – Alone
“A wistful song for a love that never quite worked out…”
Redfreya – The Waves is out now on Anomaly Music. Check it out here.
