Mondo Love & Betrayal have unveiled the second single, Your Latest, from their forthcoming self-titled debut album, which is set to be released on NuNorthern Soul later this year.

The Mondo Love & Betrayal project, which brings together Nottingham-based producer Neil ‘Nail’ Tolliday and singer-songwriter and guitarist Henry Claude Scott, borrows heavily from synth-pop influences and 1980s production styles, with the pair citing Pet Shop Boys as a key influence, as well as producers such as Stephen Hague and Shep Pettibone.

‘Those familiar with the iconic British duo’s sound during the period will notice subtle nods to the dreamier and warmer end of the PSB sound –  all melancholic Chris Lowe chord progressions, tumbling synth-motifs, chiming lead lines, thickset sequenced bass and sweeping synth-strings,’ as a press release put it.

That aesthetic is evident on Your Latest, which sees Scott playfully take aim at “creatives oversharing”. It follows on from their first single, Correspondence, which was presented as a break-up-themed track influenced by changes in communication technology.

The forthcoming album, meanwhile is set to draw on themes of betrayal, love, and loss, and is described as a ‘deeply emotive sprint through synth-pop inspired pastures, chock full of heartfelt references to pioneering artists and producers of the period’, as well as referencing newer producers such as Private Agenda and Parcels.

Mondo Love & Betrayal – Your Latest is out now on NuNorthern Soul. Check it out here.
