Roland Leesker, the boss of seminal label Get Physical Music, has announced details of his debut album, Searching for Peace, which is set to land on the label in August.
As well as his work running the label, Leesker has released a number of his own tracks on Get Physical over the years, including collaborations with the likes of DJ Pierre and Roland Clark, but the forthcoming long player is his more comprehensive piece of work to date.
Leesker’s musical journey began with him compiling mix tapes of his favourite songs from the radio – including many classic dance tracks, a process that “made me feel very happy and peaceful and that gave me an early inspiration for what I wanted to do with my life,” he explains.
That inquisitive approach has stayed with him as his career developed, as he now works with musical artists and emerging talents everywhere from Croatia to India to Africa and Brazil. Now, after putting so much time into developing the careers of others, “I thought it could be nice for a change to produce a few new tracks myself, focusing on what got me here in the first place: Music and the joy it brings, creating it. So this is me, ‘Searching For Peace’“.
The nine-track album, which lands on 30 August, features a number of collaborations, including with Dan Diamond on Let It All Go, with Jacinto on All These Lives, and on Afunukuthula, which features Xhosa vocals from Sobantwana.
