Johannes Brecht unveils new independent label, 0b16a9

German producer Johannes Brecht has announced the launch of a new, independent label, 0b16a9, with which he his seeking to being ‘authenticity and community’ to both his own music and the wider industry.

The first release on the new album is the A New Day EP, and the plan is to follow this with two further EPs, O Mundo and Try, in June and July respectively.

According to Brecht, he is keen to encourage fluidity with the label, releasing music as soon as it’s ready, “The world is changing so fast that I wanted to be able to release my music while I’m still in the moment. Do it quickly when the time feels right, without a big plan or discussions about marketing and all that. It should really be all about the music.”

The classically-trained producer is also looking to adopt a more organic approach to productions on the label, using real instruments instead of loops and samples. As he explained, “I’m interested in the energy of electronic music but always combined with musicianship, the skills of musicians.

The label will also see him work with a host of artists, including neo-soul quartet Seba Kaapstad, Portuguese singer Ju, German hip hop band, Massive Töne and Norwegian jazz pianist, Bugge Wesseltoft – the latter contributing to the third EP.

“These are all people who I have worked with before. They are very close to me,” he said.
