“Hear the drummer get wicked …again!” Chad Jackson releases follow up to crossover classic

Released in February 1990, Chad Jackson‘s Hear The Drummer (Get Wicked) was one of the crossover tracks of that year, a sample-laden record that blended hip hop and house music and reached No. 3 in the UK charts – earning Jackson an appearance on Top of the Pops.

The Manchester native had already earned his stripes on the turntablism circuit by that stage, entering the DMC World DJ Championships in its inaugural year, 1985 (where he placed second), going on to win it the following year.

He would go on to become a regular DJ at the fabled Hacienda nightclub, where he would befriend a German DJ and producer named Klaus Blatter.

Now, several decades later, Blatter has just launched a new label, KAB Records, and haas enrolled his old friend Jackson to contribute the first release – a follow up to Hear The Drummer (Get Wicked) entitled Get Wicked Again.

Backed by remixes from ITHURTZ and Luca LeBleu, the new release also features an image of Jackson from his DMC days on the cover, scratching vinyl with a snooker cue – one of his scratching ‘gimmicks’ from back in the day (as well as rugby ball).

Describing the new label, KAB Records (a sister label of Jack Said What), Blatter described it thus, “We bring only the best of acid. The best of techno. The best of dance. And we bring it for you. And we do this because we love you.”
