Following on from the re-release of Bumble’s classic West In Motion, Dublin-basedArís has done it again, with the re-issue of Fish Go Deep’s Vol. 1 EP.
Originally released in 1998, the EP features four tracks, Dream, Space and Do You Dub (all of which appeared on the original release), as well as a Colm K remix of Dream. It will be released on 6 May, with more details available on the group’s Bandcamp page.
Legendary Cork duo Fish Go Deep need no introduction – Greg Dowling and Shane Johnson are two bona fide legends of the Irish dance scene, with their long-running Sweat party in Sir Henry’s Nightclub setting the template for others to follow.
Having made their production debut on Tim Hanigan and Mark Kavanagh’s Red Records in 1994 under the alias fishgotech, the duo’s Vol. 1 EP, which followed four years later, helped establish the duo as among Ireland’s premier producers – last year’s album, This Bit of Earth, a further example of their masterful touch. Read our recent interview with Shane Johnson here.
Vol. 1 was originally released on the duo’s Eventual Records– the first and only release on said label – and as such, copies have been hard to come by, or traded hands for high sums on platforms such as Discogs.
Now, with its re-release, a wider audience has the chance to enjoy a landmark record, one of Ireland’s first deep house cuts, and an important artefact of Cork’s dance music scene.
Fish Go Deep ‘Vol.1’ is released on Arís on 6 May. Pre-order here.
