With the return of COVID-19 restrictions in Germany, indoor dancing is once again temporarily prohibited in the techno capital of the world, Berlin, as of Wednesday this week.
However, Berlin’s local government has encouraged nightclubs to remain ‘active cultural locations’ during this closed period, and host other activities, such as seated concerts, exhibitions and movie screenings.
All events need to be compatible with so called ‘2G plus’ rules (proof of full vaccination or recovery is required, along with a test prior to entry).
“After club nights, as we were used to, were only possible again at the beginning of September after a one and a half year coronavirus pause, the renewal of closure guidelines is undoubtedly a difficult hour for Berlin club culture,” commented Senator Dr. Klaus Lederer.
“In view of the high incidences, the stress on the intensive care units and the inevitably close contacts in this type of event, this step is unfortunately now necessary. But it is important to me that clubs, which have already distinguished themselves through a wide range of programmes, can continue to offer events such as concerts (with seats), readings, exhibitions or film screenings.”
Through both federal government support mechanisms and Berlin’s ‘Soforthilfe IV 7.0’ initiative, Lederer expressed confidence that “Berlin’s unique club landscape will survive this difficult phase of the pandemic, and will be a legendary experience again next year.”
