Former Miami Heat star Rony Seikaly has announced plans to release his debut album, Moonwalk, next March.
Originally from Lebanon, Seikaly moved to Greece as a child, developing a love of disco, before embarking on a basketball career in the US, where he would regularly listen to house and techno during his 11-year professional basketball career.
He started DJing as a teenager, before moving into music production upon his retirement from basketball, and releasing tracks on imprints such as Moon Harbor, Radiant, Saved, Suara, Yoshitoshi, Nervous, Stereo, Subliminal and many more, while also regularly playing Ibiza, Burning Man, and countless events around the world.
In 2019, he established his own record label, Stride, on which he plans to release his debut long player in March 2022, which will feature an impressive 26 tracks.
The album has been preceded by a single, Safari.
As the official PR blurb for the album puts it, “Moonwalk signifies Rony Seikaly’s standing as an artist who does his own thing regardless of what’s considered hot. It’s an open invitation to anyone who’s feeling it, to join him, to leave their cares behind and visit a place where we’re all in unison, as one, on the dance floor.
“It’s an expedition, a trip, to a destination where you can be free of the trappings of modern life, and all that matters is being yourself and enjoying the pure unadulterated sense of liberation that comes with being in the moment.”
