Today (24 November) marks the 50th birthday of arguably one of the finest selectors of the past two decades, Danny Howells.
Recently, the Hastings native has been as active for defending animal rights as he has mixing it up on the ones and twos, not to mention some stellar productions – for example, check out his recent house cut for 8bit Records, Paradium.

But during the first few years of the Millennium, Howells was one of the most prolific jocks in the business, delivering a couple of seminal Renaissance mix albums, the second release in the Nubreed collection, and Global Underground 027: Miami, released in 2005.
Back in 2002, however, he found the time in his busy schedule to record arguably one of the best Essential Mix sets of all time, for BBC Radio 1, a sonic tour de force that takes in Primal Scream, Beastie Boys, Prince, Kool & The Gang, Raw Silk, The Beatles, Massive Attack and The Beatles, among others.
