THROWBACK THURSDAY: Seventh Sense – Get The Music [1992]

Groove Armada might be celebrating 21 years this year, but long before they were Superstylin their way into the charts, the group’s Andy Cato, aka Andrew Cocup, was an established house producer, releasing under a number of guises, including 6 Feet Under, Big C, Caia, Duji, Makepeace and Vadis.

In 1992 Cocup released the track Get The Music on Rumour Records, under the pseudonym Seventh Sense – a delightful slice of piano-led house, which borrows its main drum loop from The Stone Roses’ Fools Gold (kicking in at 0:16).

Elsewhere, the main vocal refrain, “I’ve got the muuusic”, which commences about 43 seconds in, borrowed from an old Kiki Dee record (yes, she of the famous Elton John duet), from 1974.

As well as the Rumour Records version, there’s also a rare white label of the track, recorded under the pseudonym The System, which goes for serious money on Discogs if you can source a copy.

Aside from early hardcore tracks (and a later dalliance with trance), Cato also played trombone in the fabled Grimethorpe Colliery Band, which featured in the movie Brassed Off. This would come in handy a few years later, as he put his knowledge of all things brass to good use in the early Groove Armada hit At The River.

Groove Armada play at this year’s Beatyard festival in Dun Laoghaire, however the chance of Get the Music getting an airing is, we believe, slim. Shame. 🙂
