Zico’s back… in playlist form!

By this stage, anybody with a pulse and a love of acid house should have read Johnny Proctor’s Ninety – which follows 16-year-old Zico from the football terraces to the warehouse rave scene – or Ninety Six, which sees the titular protagonist take up a summer DJ residency in Ibiza.

Both make for essential summer reading (click here to purchase), tracking the journey of a teenage Dundee United supporter from football hooliganism to ecstasy-fuelled hedonism, and everything that goes with it.

Or, as Proctor told 909originals earlier this year, “The way I put it across in Ninety was that that first pill and that first experience of being in a field in the middle of nowhere, along with thousands of other people dancing from sunset to sunrise, was one of those life-altering experiences that once sampled left the individual a changed person in numerous ways.”

A third book – the concluding chapter of the trilogy – is on the way, but in the meantime, Proctor has delved into Zico’s record bag and put together a dynamite playlist, which in our opinion should be played at mind-altering decibels, accompanied by a beverage (or chemical complement) of choice.

Weighing in at 12 hours, and including classic cuts from Joey Beltram, Slam, Orbital, Underworld, Shades of Rhythm, CJ Bolland, Altern 8, Josh Wink, Bizarre Inc and many more, it’s enough to keep you shuffling until dawn.

Before doing it all again, of course. 🙂
