Renegade Soundwave have announced details of their first Rewired album, which sees artists such as Carl Cox, Altern 8, Leftfield and former Prodigy member Leeroy Thornhill reinterpret tracks from their catalogue.
Renegade Soundwave Rewired Vol. 1 is set to be released on 20 November through Jack Said What, in digital and two-LP coloured red vinyl formats. The album follows on from a series of singles, which began dropping at the start of September.
Other contributors to the project include Mr. C, Ralph Lawson’s 20/20 Vision, The Freestylers, Gaudi and Don Letts, Nookie and Ray Keith.
As a press release put it, ‘every invited artist worked from newly recorded stems created specifically for the project, giving them the freedom to deconstruct, reshape and rebuild each track into something entirely their own while preserving the spirit of the original compositions.’
A major influence on artists such as The Prodigy and Meat Beat Manifesto, Renegade Soundwave emerged from the UK’s electronic underground in the late 1980s, combining elements of soundsystem culture, breakbeats, house, industrial music, punk and dub production.
The launch of the album will be followed by a live event at Concorde 2 in Brighton on 30 January next year, which will see Renegade Soundwave joined by Leeroy Thornhill, Mr. C, Altern 8, Nookie and Spatial Awareness, alongside Jack Said What artists including Nickelle, Mini Da Minx, Carl Loben, Sarah Monument, Pattern Perception and Zoe Vice. Tickets for that event can be found here.
