HE.SHE.THEY. is marking its five-year anniversary with the release of its first-ever various artists compilation, 5 Years Of HE.SHE.THEY Records, which lands on 1 October.
The 25-track collection brings together artists from across the label’s catalogue, spanning house, techno, African club, disco, UK bass and more experimental sounds, as well as featuring artists such as Maya Jane Coles, SYREETA, Nikki Nair, LSDXOXO, CC:DISCO!, Chloé Robinson, Giulia Tess and others.
It has been preceded by a single, Bold by Floyd Lavine, which is out now.
Founded in 2020 by Sophia Kearney and Steven Braines, HE.SHE.THEY. was developed in response to what the founders described as the ‘commercial homogenisation of global club culture’. The project has focused on the Black, queer and underground communities that helped shape contemporary rave culture, combining a record label with a global events series.
“HE.SHE.THEY. was always about releasing a diverse range of genres, styles and of course people,” the label said in a statement. ‘To blend achingly cool underground club tracks whilst also highlighting the records we felt deserved recognition for being the sort of crossover records we would like to see triumph.
“Giving some artists their first release, alongside established artists and hearing the impact of releasing with HE.SHE.THEY. has made to many burgeoning artists’ confidence and career prospects has only reinforced our love and dedication for this project.”
Over the past five years, HE.SHE.THEY. has toured 60 cities across 26 countries and received recognition including DJ Mag Best of British nominations for Best Label in 2023 and Best Club Event in 2024. It also won Best Record Label at the inaugural FEMMY Awards in 2025 and received the Pioneer Award at IMS 2025.
The compilation follows on from the label’s recent 100th release, SYREETA and Lucas Alexander’s Realise It.
Commenting on the single Bold, South African-born, Berlin-based artist Floyd Lavine said, “I chose to weave James Baldwin’s 1963 reflection speech into Bold because it speaks to the risk at the heart of creating, that willingness to give up everything in pursuit of truth. Bold moves between calm and intensity, and for me, the journey of the song mirrors life itself. For me, art isn’t only about making something beautiful, it’s about standing for something, telling the truth, holding onto your vision, and staying rooted in integrity, even when that’s uncomfortable.
“Baldwin’s voice didn’t just accompany the music, it gave the track another layer of meaning. It helped me articulate what bold ultimately represents to me: courage, transformation, integrity, and the strength to become more fully who I am.”
The compilation is released on 1 October. You can order it here.
