‘This Is The Sound Of…’ series to explore electronic music’s origins

A new documentary podcast series, This Is The Sound Of… will explore the sounds that rewired modern culture, from acid house to Britpop, and from jungle to hip hop.

A new documentary podcast series, This Is The Sound Of… will explore the sounds that rewired modern culture, from acid house to Britpop, and from jungle to hip hop.

Hosted by Hardcore Uproar producer Suddi Raval, and featuring a host of collaborators, the series kicks off on 10 July with an episode dedicated to acid house – subtitled ‘how a failed bass machine changed Britain forever’.

The second episode in the series, on hip hop, is also now available, while future episodes on jungle, techno and Britpop are set to feature. Each episode runs to between 10 and 20 minutes, and will be released every two weeks.

The series is aimed at listeners interested in music, culture and documentary storytelling, with the producers positioning it alongside narrative audio productions such as BBC Sounds documentaries, Radiolab, Disgraceland and 99% Invisible.

‘Designed for both mainstream listeners and dedicated music fans, the series blends emotionally-driven narrative with high-end audio production to create a listening experience closer to film than traditional podcasting,’ as a press release put it.

Raval, who hosts the podcast series, has worked as a composer and sound designer on major entertainment productions and globally recognised franchises, while collaborator Pete Lee is a multi-award-winning producer and co-founder of Love to Infinity.
