Anjunabeats has announced a partnership with MIT’s Environmental Solutions Initiative on a study that sought to engage music fans on climate change and sustainability issues.
The label teamed up with Egyptian-born recording artist and MIT PhD student Norhan Magdy Bahomi (aka Nourey) to undertake a study at Above & Beyond’s Gorge Weekender event this summer, which took place over a period of 16 hours.
It saw nearly 400 responses recorded for a climate identity survey, while more than 500 people interacted with an augmented reality ‘Art Wall’ experience.
“Partnering with MIT’s Environmental Solutions Initiative enables Anjunabeats to apply scientific rigor in our sustainability efforts,” commented Anna Johnson, the label’s Sustainability and Environment Officer.
“Music events provide an opportunity for testing new ideas and experimentation around pressing global challenges. We hope the Gorge project contributes to a growing body of research with the objective to scale-up sustainable behavior change.”
The results of this study will be revealed in a livestream event on Zoom and Twitch on Wednesday 21 September, at 16.30 UK time, hosted by MIT and Anjunabeats. According to the label, it forms part of an ongoing sustainability initiative being undertaken by Anjunabeats.

Founded in 2014, MIT’s Environmental Solutions Initiative seeks to mobilise the substantial scientific, engineering, policy, and design capacity of the community to contribute to addressing climate change and other environmental challenges of global import.
According to Professor John E.
