Goldie and James Davidson drop new single ‘American Gods’, ahead of Subjective album release

Drum ‘n’ bass legend Goldie and producer James Richardson’s Subjective project has unveiled a new single, American Gods, ahead of the release of the album The Start Of No Regret later this month.

The new single, which features vocals from Natalie Duncan, is the latest to be released from the forthcoming album, which will be released on 20 May on Three Six Zero Recordings/Sony Music.

Shifting between genres such as jungle, techno, electronica and soul, The Start Of No Regret also features collaborations with Greentea Peng, alt-jazz hero Tom Misch, and soul vocalist Lady Blackbird, and was recorded by the pair working collaboratively in different timezones – Davidson in Bournemouth and Goldie in Phuket, Thailand.

Commenting on the single, Goldie said, “American Gods is really influenced by being in Thailand and the idea of looking at the way the west has been with media and how intense it is for younger generation coming up.

For me it’s like a bonfire with young people running round the maypole throwing their mobile phones on it in an ideal world. But that’s why American gods is being sick of following the Americanism and being more true to ones own soul.”

The release of American Gods follows on from the released of Dassai Menace (released with double A-side Fathoms), which was used by the late Virgil Abloh to soundtrack his Louis Vuitton SS22 fashion film ‘Amen Break’.

‘The Start of No Regret’ will be available on all digital platforms, as well as CD and double vinyl, from 20 May. You can pre-order it here.
