Rewind to the Dublin dance scene of the mid 90s with the ‘Celebrate The Life’ compilation

Back in 1995, the Dublin dance scene was in rude health, with an array of stellar live acts, a thriving club scene, and a crowd so up for it that even Ibiza was probably a little bit jealous.

One compilation that sought to capture the essence of the time was Celebrate The Life, released on Celt Tribe records in 1995, and featuring artists such as Bumble, Mad Sound Disease, Rob Rowland and the Donal Lunny-sampling Synchro Express.

Long since out of print, the compilation sought to offer ‘a selection of homegrown dance tunes from Dublin’, at an exciting time for the nascent scene.

As the inlay card puts it, in words that would be just as relevant today, ‘The balance of the future lies in our hands, we’re heading for major changes, it’s up to this “jilted generation” to make sure they’re for the better, who else is going to bother?

‘Dance music is global, it involves more young people that probably any other scene on the planet. We can choose to do something, or we can “get out of our heads” and bury them in the sand. That’s the real choice of this “new” generation.‘

Seeing as it’s St Patrick’s Day, and an opportunity to celebrate all-things Irish, 909originals has put together a YouTube playlist featuring the tracks from this influential, albeit largely forgotten, compilation.
