Wendy Carlos’ iconic score for Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange, released 50 years ago, is the subject of this week’s Classic Album Sundays, with legendary selector Greg Wilson joining host Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy to discuss its legacy.
Wendy Carlos is what you might call a true genius in the world of twentieth century music. Her dramatic score for the legendary Clockwork Orange motion picture is a fascinating collection of solid, dark, electronic proto-new age music.
Greg Wilson began DJing in 1975 and is regarded as one of the most important figures on the UK dance scene. He enjoyed hugely popular residencies in the early eighties at Wigan Pier and Manchester’s majorly influential Legend, before going on to be resident at The Hacienda.
As he wrote on his Facebook page, A Clockwork Orange is “a film and soundtrack that holds a deep resonance for me, so I’m happy to be able to share this obsession. A written piece on the subject will be uploaded in due course – I’ll keep you posted.”
Classic Album Sundays is broadcast on Worldwide FM at 8pm GMT on 20 February 2022. The programme will be repeated on Thursday at 12 noon GMT, following Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Basement.
