House classic ‘Work It Out’ gets a second lease of life
Some tracks are so infectious that they deserve a second bite of the cherry. Having been originally released in 1992, On-dré’s house classic Work It Out recently re-emerged as the basis for Calvin Harris and Eli Brown’s We Can Come Together.
Now, following countless plays on Radio 1, Capital Dance and Kiss FM, the original is set for a re-release – earning a second lease of life close to three decades on from its first outing.
On-dré, aka André Jacobs, has teamed up with Nick Halkes, who is now the publisher of the track, for the re-release, as well as a series of remixes.
“You just cant keep a good tune down,” said Halkes. “It doesn’t matter if a great hook was written three hours ago or 30 years ago – what interests me is quality and connectivity. I’m looking forward to working with André and happy to be co-publisher on a release from one of the most successful dance/electronic music producers in the world – quite an endorsement!”
When Work It Out was first released, back in 1992, Jacobs was running the pioneering D-Zone label, and Halkes was at XL, having previously signed The Prodigy.
On the re-release of Work It Out, Jacobs said, “I’m looking forward to working with Nick, a man whose reputation I’ve admired since his days at XL but who I’ve not had the pleasure of working with until now. This is just the start of a long and fruitful relationship – plus I’ll need to keep him sweet for future Prodigy related blags!”
The track is set to be re-released early next year, alongside a host of new mixes.
